The sacred and fun filled rituals have spread its pleasantries to the growing popularity of many geographical regions. The traditions of Maharashtrian, Gujarati and Marwari weddings incorporate the West Indian style of marriage. India is known for its cultural diversity and no one can ever point out with a set of sequences as a typical Indian wedding.

‘Sakhar Puda ‘is the commencing of marriage rituals with the engagement ceremony. During this ceremony, the bride and the parents exchange sugar packets. The Maharashtra weddings are usually hosted in the morning.

The groom’s family arrive at the mantap in the morning and they get royal hospitality followed by the lavish breakfast.  They worship Lord Ganesha as a part of the Puja ceremony. The bride’s maternal uncle convoys her to the mandap and the bride and the groom are masked by Antarpaat, a silk partition. After the shlokas are recited the partition is removed. The guests shower the holy rice to get a good auspicious living. Garland exchange takes place and the Saat Pheras is a ceremony done around the holy fire. Following this Laxmi Narayan puja is conducted and the bride makes her proceedings to reach her husband’s house.
